Egypt yields surprisingly little in its mythology regarding Urban Nature Spirits. The only interesting references occur during the shift from prehistory to history.
During prehistoric times, the original Egyptians were nomadic tribes. They worshipped animal deities and fetishes, and little is known about them. Each tribe had its own animal guardian.
As they settled into towns and moved into recorded history, the animals assumed human forms. Frequently, however, they kept animal heads. Each town had its own deity, called “Lord of the City.” The entity possessed a vital fluid called the “Sa.” It kept the entity strong, and he or she could renew it by having another strong entity lay hands on them.
