Camilla wondered what Freddie would do now. Were he and Vanessa safe? Perhaps they were. Perhaps they had raised the alarm. She tried to sense what her sister was feeling, but, unusually, nothing came. It must be the fact that they were underground. Freddie had talked about the labyrinth underneath the old chapel often enough. If he were here now, he would know exactly where they were and how they might escape, whether down to the railway, or back up to the house via yet another secret passageway. Freddie had explained that this was why Quick Draw had to die. His detailed modelling of the Templeton Tunnel, based on plans and examinations of the real underground passageways had led him to discover the hidden rooms – rooms where the secret documents were hidden.
