‘Go on George, tell me! Come on. You know you can trust me! Who can you confide in apart from me?’

Georgie Ellis looked at her sister. It was true. Who else could she confide in outside work? Could she confide in anybody inside work? Charlie was a good mate, but he had his own preoccupations – wife and new kitchen. She wanted kids; he didn’t. Donald May? She had grown a lot closer to him since starting as a DC, but would it ever be possible to tell him what she really thought about ACC Samson and the case?

‘Well?’

‘Well, what?’

‘Well, are you going to tell me what you think is going on? If you can’t talk to your big sister, who are you going to explain your theory to?’
