‘The suicide note says they murdered my little brother.’ Donald May paced up and down his office, his hands in his pockets. ‘Father William, Brother Bernard, and McGraw were responsible for the murder of a child. Our body in the woods near the old chapel, presumably.’

‘It would seem so, sir. Just one problem.’

‘Yes, Georgie?’

‘Diana Foster was an only child. I have been in touch with her parents – they are coming to identify her body tomorrow morning. They deny all knowledge of another child. It’s a mystery to them as to why their daughter should say that.’

‘Except it wasn’t Diana Foster who wrote that, was it?’

The three police officers looked at each other and shook their heads.
