‘Does your father know what you have been up to?’

Freddie and Vanessa stood there in silence. They looked at each other and then at Georgie Ellis.

‘No. We came to you first for – well – for some advice.’

Ellis snorted. ‘I don’t know where to start. You know that it is a serious offence to withhold information from the police.’

‘We weren’t withholding it – we just hadn’t got round to telling you.’ Vanessa stamped her feet in serious irritation.

‘Hmmm. Well, that’s a moot point. DCI May will not be at all pleased. But let’s see what we can do first. I assume you think that I will smooth the path when it comes to letting your dad know about your antics.’
