Barbara Halliday ushered DCI May and DS Riggs into the lounge of her penthouse apartment. The two men looked round.

‘My late husband renovated this whole factory. He took special care over our place. Quite something, isn’t it?’

May and Riggs looked at each other, then watched Barbara Halliday walk over to the Steinway to look at the photograph. She caressed the gold frame.

‘He was quite something was my Rod. Silly me! I was forgetting myself. Would you like a drink? Tea, coffee, something stronger?’

May cleared his throat. Riggs shook his head.

‘No, too early for alcohol – at least for some people.’ Barbara Halliday looked the two policemen up and down then went to the cocktail cabinet and poured...
