We stumble around our lives, ignoring everything except our most immediate concerns and urges.

I was asleep like everyone else, until the visitors came to me. Now, I spend my nights on the deeper mystery, listening to their strange speech, trying to learn, trying to understand.

It’s easier to listen to them now, since I’m spending my nights on the couch. Nina kicked me out of the bedroom. She thinks it’s some sort of punishment, apparently. But in reality, it’s blessed relief. While she wastes her nights in useless unconsciousness, I am awake, in so many ways. I am beyond sleep now.
