The eyes moved.
When I looked outside last night, checking to see if they were there again, I wasn’t disappointed.
I didn’t tell Nina I saw them again. I haven’t told her since the first time, when she said I was seeing things. If she wants to dismiss it, then screw it. Screw her. She doesn’t need to know.
I went into our bedroom while she was watching TV. I turned off the light in the room, then looked out the window into the back yard. And there they were. When I saw them, they were near ground level, so I was sure it was a racoon or a cat.
But then they moved up, quickly and smoothly. I thought it had jumped up on the fence, but the eyes never turned away. And they locked on me.
