My thrusters sputtered and died about 30 minutes back. I’d been swimming the old fashioned way since. A merciless headache banged on the inside of my skull like a hellish church bell. But the island was so close now… I could nearly feel the sand under my toes again. Memories of the dangerous island now echoed as serene and peaceful… The fruit that my mouth yearned for and my stomach craved, the Nectar that would taste so sweet now… I could visualize it all as I glimpsed the island between tossing waves. I was clearly dehydrated. Exhausted. Maybe even delirious. I just couldn’t shake the mind-shattering image of that colony of monsters below…
The Haze fooled us all into thinking we found Heaven. But this was Hell.
