I waded into the water, onto the sandbar and out towards the ambiguous blue sea. Her legs flopped around while I moved quickly through the cool water. It took Benjamin a few seconds to absorb the gravity of the situation. Eventually, I heard his footsteps splash in the water as he caught up. Together we beelined for cleaner, fresher air, to save Jess.
I just hoped we weren’t too late.
