Hamilton’s office did indeed appear to be the inner sanctum of a general medical practitioner. A hapless visitor might expect to find a friendly family doctor in such a place.

Yeah, but the diagnosis here is always bad, Grady thought gleefully.

The walls were dark wood paneling, from which hung paintings of peaceful landscapes. There was a thick green shag carpet on the floor. Cushioned chairs lined the walls. The contrast between Hamilton’s lair and the stark metal catacombs that comprised the rest of the facility never failed to give Grady a chuckle.

“So, what can I do ya for, Abe?” Grady asked. He knew the grey man hated that nickname.

The doctor ignored him. “So, I take it the detonation earlier was one of your grand gestures?”
