“One night,” he began haltingly, and Grady looked over at him in mild surprise. “I was heading into a library. There was an old station wagon in the parking lot. The windows looked strange, like they were all white. I walked over, and it turned out there were poster boards in all the windows. There were pictures, newspaper clippings, and handwriting in marker all over them.
I got close to the windows, so I could read some of the stuff. There was an article about a space shuttle launch that was supposed to put a new satellite in orbit. A red arrow was drawn from the article to the words ‘mind-control satellites.’
I felt someone behind me, and I turned around. There was a guy standing there. His clothes were ratty and his hair was all messed up. He just looked...
