It’s a disquieting feeling when you wake up one day and realize you are now the adult, the wise one, the learned one. Gone are the carefree days of being a kid, a teenager. You are now as old as the elders you were once required to respect.
I’m older than my doctors. I’m older than my co-workers. I’m older than my boss. I’m older than professional athletes (who are retiring in their 30’s)! I’m older than the kids who card me when I buy alcohol. The fact that I’m still carded is a bit of an insult, as well as hilarious. I could be these kids’ grandmother. My Mom tells me to take it as a compliment, it means I still look youthful. When I tell people my real age, they don’t even believe me. I wish I didn’t either.
