Rising from her bed, Elizabeth was careful not to disturb Gambit (who was oddly unperturbed by the movement they had been witness to just moments before) when she arose. Why was he not on edge like she was? Didn't cats have a sort of sixth sense? Maybe it wasn’t anything to worry about, but she had to check to be sure.
Moving slowly toward her bedroom door, she thought she could hear whispers again. This time, they were coming from farther down the hall towards her bathroom. Quietly, taking one step at a time, she made it halfway down the hall when the sound shattered her sense of calm. The sound itself was not massive in volume; it was only slight, however, it was very distinct.
