The train arrived early at the station. Lexi became annoyed as she realized her father was always exactly on time, and they would need to wait for him. She had no choice but to show Luke around town with special care taken to stay away from Grayson’s General Store.

Lexi could not catch a break. The one man she did her best to avoid headed straight for her. Cooper was already too close for their encounter to be averted.

His eyes lit up. “Lex, welcome back.”

She grabbed her husband’s hand, squeezed it tightly, and braced herself. “Cooper, I have someone special I’d like to introduce. This is my husband, Lukas Weston.”

Luke extended his hand, but Cooper did not accept his friendly gesture. “What’s going on here?”
