CHAPTER TWO

 

I had to push open the front door after knocking yielded no results. Stepping into the hallway, I looked around. My face reflected in the ornate mirror directly in front. A stained glass window at the top of the stairs on the right threw a puddle of multi-coloured light near the landing.

“Come Somu,” I heard Mrs Aich say from the room straight ahead. Startled, I entered to find her folding up a red and white rug.

“I was just finishing my meditation. You are a bit late today, I think?”

I nodded a little awkwardly. Listen, I knew it was rude to stare, but I couldn’t stop. There were so many things in the room that looked interesting – also, I had dreamed about this since I had started to work.
