“What happened? Why did you cancel the wedding?” Anita asked.

“I really don’t want to talk about it?” Julia shook her head, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Did Juan cheat on you? That bastard!” Anita feigned concern, while craving gossip.

“Worse.” Julia sighed. “He went out to smoke, and was careless enough to throw the butt of his cigarette away without looking.”

“What?” Anita’s face creased with confusion.

“He burnt the garden shed to the ground.” Anita shrugged. “Which wouldn’t have been a dealbreaker but our ghost-snacking toad was inside. No one wants that kind of bad luck in the family!”
