“Don’t you cry, my beautiful daughter,” the man said to the young maiden.

It was the day of her wedding, but no wedding would take place.

Her fiancé had fallen from his horse, breaking her neck.

The man to whom she had given her heart was no longer here to give it back.

“Without a heart to live and love, crying is all I can do,” she replied.

Her father held her hand. “Look behind the clouds. They fly low, they want you to know.”

The maiden looked up. “Know what?” She saw the pair fly away.

“That your heart is safe. That they'll bring it back to you once your beloved reaches the place of eternal rest.”
