CHAPTER 8: THE STORE (OR THE DE-FLAGPOLING OF EDWARD BONE)

The store was located in the heart of Star at the intersection of the streets now called Mangum Drive and Main Street. The tan-bricked, concrete-floored store had a giant yellow border around the edge of the roof with bright red letters proclaiming “Mangum’s Store.” Back then, the roads at the intersection had no names, and Mangum’s Store might as well not have, either. We simply called it “the store.”
