“I’m not a liberty to say. The reason I’m calling is that I want to make sure you are safe.”
“Me? I’m safe. I’m at a memorial service we had for Elise and surrounded by friends.” I’m stunned that Detective Chen thinks I may be in danger. “Is there something I should know?”
“I’m sure you’ll be fine. Just be aware of your surroundings and be in the company of friends, if possible.”
The detective hangs up and I’m standing there in disbelief. “They sent some officers to check on Tori,” I tell everyone. Most of the party has cleared out by now.
“This is incredible,” Emma says as she comes over to hug me. “We have to go, though, and finish work for classes tomorrow.”
