A flock of familiar faces fly into the event space. Everyone Elise and I ever met, and plenty of people I’ve never seen before. Larissa and Jim of course, and my cousin Emma, Mom, Dad and Kyra. Mike from TechTorrent. Elise’s last boyfriend Dave, and some other guys she dated, Mitch and Greg from 20 Spot, and Jake, who texted me, is here, too.
“Hi,” I greet Mike, who leans over and hugs me. He’s strong and warm and I slightly swoon until I realize my parents are right behind us. I quickly introduce them, and then pull Mike towards the bar.
I make him a mimosa and refill my own. “There are still no breakthroughs in the case,” I tell him.
