just drank.  She put her cup down and touched her stomach, swallowing hard to keep the coffee from coming back up.

     “When I was at the hospital, Sunday, the doctor be tellin me about Bear’s body not doin so good and about them takin him off the machines.  He be tellin me he already told ya’all about it.”

     “We just be talkin about all that,” Ezra said.

     Tears filled Justalynn’s eyes and she wiped them away as quickly as they came down her cheeks.  She took a couple more sips of her coffee and stared into the black liquid like she was searching for her answers in it, but to no avail.  She lifted her head only a little.
