The British never came to Japan. It was something she’d only started learning about at her university. The Portuguese came. The Dutch came. Not the British. Just as she wasn't supposed to be there, neither were they. Was it possible the monk had brought them there to be part of all of this?

            “Well they are here, so if you can help me, now is the time.”
