“Bob—the man is a liar. All of this is a farce—just a charade meant to get you to put your guard down. Once you’ve committed our troops to an overseas engagement in front of the entire world, there won’t be any way for you to back down. The second those soldiers leave our shores, we’ll be overrun by the Russians and the Chinese. Bob—they’re working together.”

Bob dragged his fingers down his cheeks and began breathing rapidly.

“You must have your suspicions. Please—don’t announce that pledge tonight. Tell everyone that we’re formulating a joint plan, or that we’re working on a more diplomatic route before giving into war. We need time to prove all of this—to show that there’s a connection.”
