When Tim opened his eyes, he found himself sitting alone in the dark. He felt the fabric of Daphne’s rug beneath his fingertips and knew instantly that he was back in her apartment. Turning around, he saw that the blinds had been drawn and all of the candles had been removed; the benign fluorescent flicker of the kitchen light bled into the room along with a chorus of voices.
Tim recognized Marcus’ among the medley, and so he rose and walked towards the sound before being intercepted by a large shadow; Anne stood in the doorway with eyes like two hot coals piercing the darkness.
“You.”
“Now is not the time,” Tim said, clenching his jaw.
“Where did you go? We’ve been worried sick!” Daphne said, overriding Anne’s voice....
