Genny sat back and listened intently as several officers briefed Jarrod on the progress of the investigation.  The manager of Seashore Haven Inn had conveniently forgotten that a clerk on duty during the evening in question had left early.  Her mother had taken ill in another state.  He finally remembered and called the station when she returned the day before and asked for her position back.

Doris Fletcher was interviewed and readily admitted a man checked in that could have been Xander.  He had a ball cap hiding part of his face.  She pegged him immediately as a shady character with a secret.  Probably because the regular type of customer at their establishment seemed to be hiding an affair. 

The witness was extremely observant with minor details.  If only the police...
