Genny laid in the dark and stared toward her children’s rooms with tears rolling down her face. Time seemed to stand still. The storm had passed quickly. The room remained completely quiet, except for the rumble of an engine every now and again as a car traveled by on the road. The tears finally stopped falling. Exhaustion started to overtake her senses. She slightly shifted her body and finally let sleep overtake her.
Genny was dead to the world when Alivia started pounding on her door before six a.m. “Mommy! Why can’t I open your door?”
