Cleopatra's father, Cole Washington, lived in a rough part of West Key a mile from Bifrost. He stood on the front porch watching the rain from the shelter of the awning. Cleopatra was out of Glenda before the car had come to a complete stop, and she strode up to her father while Parker turned off the engine.

"Okay, so I brought Jamie here. Want to tell me what's going on?"

"Nope. How about you wait out here with your derby kid, Tera? I want to talk to this girl in private."

"Damn it, Dad!" Thunder rolled as lightning struck the street down the block. Jamie jumped at the nearness of the strike.

"Don't take that tone with me, Tera, or I'll send you home and I'll drive Jamie back myself. Or am I not allowed to drive my own damn...
