It was raining buckets when she got home, with thunder and lightning filling the sky. The storm had a sense of doom about it, like it heralded the end of the world.

Something about her house felt odd when Jamie walked in the door. Nothing looked out of place, but an air of emptiness filled the home. Her parents were usually home by now. Her dad should be cooking dinner and her mom should be settling in for tonight's episode of Lyle Prather Live. But the house was silent.

"Hello?" Jamie called out.

She heard movement and then her dad poked his head out of his study. "Oh, you're home. Glad you're okay. I was thinking pizza for dinner, but wanted to wait for you to get home before ordering."
