The police arrived within minutes and began taking statements. Jamie half expected to be carted out of the neighborhood and have to call her parents from the police station, but Mrs. Lambros gave a reasonable account of events and didn't offer to press charges.

An ambulance came to transport Justin to the hospital. He'd broken his arm and a few ribs. His parents were meeting him there. Travis was taken in for questioning, with a strange old man riding up front in the squad car. A paramedic bandaged up Jamie's bite marks and told her to have her parents take her to see their doctor. Then Jamie, Ashley, and Parker waited for their parents to pick them up.
