Jamie slowly walked down the steps from her bedroom, barely awake. She'd been up all night patrolling after Parker dropped her off, with still no clue what was happening with Karl. On the bright side, she didn't get ambushed again. Hearing her mother's voice from the kitchen woke her up.

"Charles, I'm dead serious," Gloria said. "We need to install better security."

"We have the best we can afford, dear," Charles said. "Besides, I don't think that having better security will give us any better protection. If this killer came here, no one would get here in time. At least not on our budget."

"They have super-powered response."

"First, that's a lot of money. Second, are you changing your tune about super-heroes?"
