At lunch, Jamie swung by the trophy case. While she had been suspended, the school had posted photos of the missing students. A few students stared in mute terror at the faces of the missing kids; others seemed to have gotten used to them and went about their day. Jamie wondered, not for the first time, if people in Cobalt City had just gotten used to awful things happening to people.
The pictures on the glass case represented the fringes of the school culture: the druggies, the nerds, the emos, and the plain old losers. Had someone declared war on the weirdos of Lincoln High? And since she was so anti-social, was she going to be on this hit list?
