Jamie Hattori jerked awake. She'd fallen asleep leaning against her locker. As her eyes focused, she saw someone standing in front of her. The girl wore blue eye-shadow, bright red lipstick and rouge. It reminded Jamie of ravers she sometimes saw stumbling home at night. The girl's short hair had been dyed an unnatural shade of red and spiked up. She had a pale olive complexion that hinted at Mediterranean genes. Hanging from her ears were a pair of white disks long enough to touch the shoulders of her slightly too-small T-shirt featuring a man's face and the word "Bowie."
"Were you," Jamie croaked before clearing her throat. "Were you talking to me?"
The girl looked panicked. "Oh god, were you really asleep? I thought you were just zoning out. I'm so sorry!"
