Jamie walked into the Shambalah Coffee House and looked around, while Sabrina followed close behind in a large identity-concealing hoodie. The coffee shop had its usual afternoon crowd of teens hanging out, and the occasional homeless person taking shelter from the cold. Visible to Jamie and no one else were the spirits that looked like cats. Jamie had never understood why a coffee shop was filled with cat spirits, but there were many things she encountered with her power that she didn't understand.

The drive to the coffee shop had been perilous, with Sabrina having to stop the car repeatedly when waves of visions hit her. Jamie felt helpless, but didn't feel any more confident in her own unlicensed driving ability.

Dave sat behind the counter, holding a magazine as though he'd been reading it...
