Gloria came up and sat next to Jamie on the bench. "Tera here was trying to talk me into signing up for Booty Camp to learn some basic derby skills. I take it you know Jamie?"

"Yeah, she shows up at a lot of the Dolls practices when I'm coaching. She helps time the penalty box when the girls scrimmage." Tera's expression was flat. Jamie had gotten advice about gods from Tera's dad, which had almost gotten the old man killed. They hadn't spoken about it in the month since it had happened, but Jamie was sure that the older woman held a grudge.

"Can you imagine me in booty shorts and fishnets, Jamie?" Gloria asked.

"I'm ... I'm really trying not to."

Her mom playfully swatted at Jamie's arm. "You're a brat."
