Going into foster care was very different from anything I had experienced before. Some families were better, and others were, I can't say worse than living with my father, but it definitely wasn't an improvement from living with him.
   During the emergency placement, the parents of a few of my friends came forward saying they would take me in when they learned of my situation. Each of them was rejected, primarily due to my father's objections. I had even attempted to contact my mother, asking her to take me back, but she had a new life, with a new boyfriend. She was reluctant to disrupt the new life she had started after my sister and I had left her.
   I was placed in an emergency program called EMRY. It was a happy place to be, in comparison to my fath...
