Waiting in my chair, beginning to feel the first twinges of discomfort of another oncoming round of pain as my parents decided my fate, I realized there was nothing I could do about any of it. Nothing would make a difference, not what I did, not what I said, not how I behaved. I was in a hopeless, no-win situation. All I could do was sit there, staring out the window.
Eventually, my stepmother walked into my room, sitting down on my bed, “I've talked to your father,” she said, “I've convinced him to drop your grounding back down to two weeks, and he has agreed, provided you apologize for your behavior.”
