dusk settles around the city, blurring out the harshest edges of the world around us. i sit alone in the darkening living room, smell the faint traces of coffee you left behind you this morning when you raced out the door for work. wandering around, i find the jacket you left behind, a book half-crammed into the pocket. flicking the light on, i snap the blinds down, hide my silhouette from prying eyes. the light is harsh, the air cold, and i pretend that that's why my eyes water.
(i won't tell you that i sobbed over not getting to come home to you)
