Devin was surprised the summons hadn’t arrived earlier. He’d been vaguely suspecting it was inevitable. After all, he’d missed a conspicuous number of classes over the previous week. So it was on Tuesday morning that he finally found himself in Principal Veneer’s office.
Veneer held a manila folder in his hands, shaking his head in disapproval.
“I don’t understand this, Devin. You’re usually a model student, and here you are missing thirteen periods in one week. Almost all in the morning, and with your dad out of town to boot. What am I to make of this?”
