Karen watched the three humans. The two who were terrified stood rigid, unable to move out of pure fear. The leader yelled at them to get into the car. That broke their paralysis. One slid into the back seat from the driver’s side while the leader slid behind the steering wheel. The third one was so scared he dared not go to the other side. He could hear the wildlings approaching. “Leave him behind and save yourself,” she thought to the leader.

Then she saw something amazing. The leader, knowing death was coming, stepped out of the car and let his friend in. It looked like stupidity, but she knew it wasn’t; he didn’t move with uncertainty or carelessness. His actions were well defined and skillful. He timed them perfectly....
