and Lisa knew how to cook them to perfection.

She told him, “You need to be able to cook the meat without burning or undercooking it. You also need to learn to make your own sauce.” One Friday night while Karen was swimming, Lisa had Aaron in the kitchen teaching him about the different ingredients found in rubs, injections, and bastings, and how they affected different types and even different cuts of meat. “If you learn how to make a good sauce, the smoker can be forgiving. If your sauce isn’t any good, no amount of smoke is going to fix it.”

When they later went out to the smoker for some instruction on how to set the dampers on the smoker, Craig said, “When Lisa was growing up, her entire family thought she would be a great chef someday.”
