1. Dirt Road.

Aaron Darveau, January 5, 1983

Aaron’s in his back yard raking the leaves. It’s hard keeping them in one area because the wind is blowing. He looks up at the gathering storm clouds and hopes he can get it done before his dad gets home. He has a date tonight, but he can’t leave until his chores are done.

He knows what’s coming next and dreads it. He spends a little extra time raking the stray leaf or two into the pile just so he won’t have to look up and see the large, black dog trotting toward him up the driveway. There are a few strays in the neighborhood who know him...
