The circle was quiet. Everyone was waiting to see who the next Lupus Rex would be. Angelina motioned to the hunters and waited while they removed Aaron’s chains. The hunters retook their positions and she shouted, “Come forth, my Lupus Rex! It is time to take your position next to me, but not in front of me, to take your oath to defend and uphold the Pact.”

Aaron stepped up next to Angelina and became the center of attention. This was the most dangerous part in the ceremony. He performed a renovatio inside his cloak, instead of removing it first, tearing it off as the fabric rubbed his skin like acid. He gripped Angelina’s left cula with his right.
