“I’ve thought about it. But I want you.” He put his hands on both of her arms, forcing her to look him in the face. “My intuition says you would be better at it. If we’re going to start bringing in shunned lupis, they would feel better if they knew their queen was like them.”

She shook him loose and yelled, “No! Now get out of my room!”

So Aaron, again, turned the convincing over to someone who he hoped was better at it than he was. Jajine.

Aaron threw himself into the chair in her bedroom. “Technically, you’re still her mother-in-law. Maybe you’ll have better luck.”

“Boy, I don’t know dat girl.”

“You can drop the accent around me.” He smiled. “I know better.”...
