Chapter 39—St. Joseph Church, New Orleans

The rest of the trip to Pensacola was quiet, other than two rest stops for gas, food, driver switching, and bathroom breaks. Everyone concentrated on their own thoughts and what the future was holding for them.
Aaron pulled into a gas station just as the sun dragged the last of its light with it below the horizon. Angelina was sleeping in the backseat while Elwood was sprawled along the rest of it, asleep with his head on her lap. Since she had climbed into the back in Miami, the dog hadn’t whimpered once. His wound had healed up sufficiently, so she had removed the stitches and walked him when they stopped for gas and bathroom breaks....
