After Frank left the room, Craig put his arm around Lisa’s shoulders and mumbled comfortingly, “We’ll bury her out next to the big lake. She liked it out there. Now come with me. You need to go lie down for a spell.”
Lisa stood up and let Craig lead her out of Karen’s room. He took her to their bedroom and put her to bed. He’d never seen Lisa so malleable before. She was usually the strong one. They didn’t have any daughters, so Karen was the closest thing they had to one. If losing a real child was worse, he was glad his boys were still alive. Perhaps he needed to make amends with them.
