Aaron was leaning forward out of his chair, his elbows on his knees, and his forehead in his hands. “I don’t know.” He sniffled and Father Thomas handed him a tissue. Aaron wiped his nose. “Something. Anything other than what I did.”
Father Thomas leaned back in the squeaky chair and formed a steeple with his fingers. “Perhaps, now that you’re no longer protected by the Race, you should seek out some allies. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise, Aaron. You’re free to act now, to protect those who can’t protect themselves. To protect those like Kyle and Sally.”
