Alexander felt the weight of their arms push down on his torso as they swam over him. Any thoughts that it was an accident were now completely evaporated. The first contact, maybe, The second, probably not. The third definitely not.
His mind flooded with panic and he thrashed his legs in a frenzy to try to get out of the way, but the other swimmer was right on him and he struggled to move his limbs in the right direction. He was getting pushed down in the water as the bigger and stronger hoplite crowded over him. The next contact pushed his shoulders down and he went further under water. He gasped involuntarily and swallowed a great gulp of water. The salt burned his lungs and he tried to cough, but he was still underwater and so took on even more.
