Alexander felt frustrated and angry , thoughts of revenge on Xenophon spun through his mind as he trudged back to the camp. He grabbed some food and picked at the flat bread and salt meat. He chewed slowly as he wondered how he could take retribution. The sun was at its highest and the men were filthy and drenched in sweat. A sweet cloying smell clung to them as they ate. 

After a short time the men started to rouse themselves and filter away, moving back towards the beach. Alexander couldn’t see Methiodos around so he wondered what had been the signal for them to start training again. None became obvious and when Straton came over to get him, he decided it was wiser not to ask and look foolish. He’d had enough ridicule for one day from Xenophon.
