Homicide Detective Jane Weathers stepped out of her unmarked police cruiser and surveyed the scene.  Tourists hustled back and forth between the rest stop and their vehicles, and a steady line of cars waited for the full service pumps.

What was different on this day was the cluster of uniformed officers, police photographers and medical examiners buzzing around in a small cluster of woods by the parking lot.  Police tape blocked off the area from curious onlookers.

Jane walked up to her partner, Eddie Del Vecchio. 

"What's the word, Eddie?" she asked, as they entered the woods.
